If you’ve worked in the Deals module in Zoho CRM, you’re probably familiar with the Stage History section. It shows how long a deal stayed in each stage of the pipeline. Super helpful for spotting delays or understanding your sales cycle.
But here’s the part most people miss:
You can enable picklist history tracking on any module in Zoho CRM, not just Deals.
This opens up a whole new level of workflow visibility, especially in service and fulfillment processes.
Watch Jozette Demonstrate This CRM Tip
Here's How To Set It Up
1. Head to Setup > Modules and Fields
2. Open the module you want to track (Leads, Projects, Jobs, etc.)
3. Find the picklist field that represents the status or stage of that module
4. Click the field, and check “Enable history tracking for picklist values”
That’s it! Zoho CRM will automatically track picklist changes, logging the timestamp and the duration each record stayed in a particular value.
Real World Example
One of our clients has a custom Projects module. We built a Blueprint to guide their team through each phase of a job, from kickoff to completion. By enabling picklist history on the Blueprint status field, we can now:
- See how long a project stayed in each phase using Zoho CRM stage tracking
- Spot delays in real-time
- Pull reporting by stage duration to measure project performance
All of this happens automatically, just from moving the record through the Blueprint.
Why This Matters
🔍 Unlock visibility in non-sales workflows
Whether it’s a project tracking workflow, customer onboarding, or support, Zoho CRM picklist history gives you real-time insights into how long each step takes.
⚙️ No complicated configuration needed
This feature requires no complex automation or scripting. It's a simple field update, so no Deluge required.
📈 Make data-backed decisions
With Zoho CRM reporting by status duration, you can identify where your process slows down and optimize accordingly.
Bottom Line
If you’re only using Stage History on Deals, you're missing a huge opportunity to bring that same level of tracking and insight to every part of your CRM. From Projects to Tickets to Onboarding, you can use picklist value tracking in Zoho CRM to unlock process visibility anywhere.
