Zoho CRM Canvas Can Now Show Lookup Data Without Extra Tabs
If you are tired of opening 12 tabs just to understand one CRM record, Zoho just made Canvas a lot smarter.
Zoho CRM Canvas now lets you view fields from lookup modules directly inside a Canvas page. That means your Deal page can show key Account or Contact data right on the layout, without forcing your users to click into the lookup record just to get context.
This is exactly the kind of change that improves adoption because it removes a productivity tax your team pays all day.

What’s new
You can now add lookup module fields to:
- A Canvas detail view page
- A Canvas list view page
Two important details from Zoho:
- These lookup fields are read-only
- They always reflect the latest values from the lookup record, so you are not showing stale context
Why it matters
In real life, a record rarely stands alone.
A Deal does not make sense without the Account context. A Case does not make sense without the Contact and customer tier. A Project record does not make sense without the client summary.
Without this feature, users do the same annoying loop:
Open record → click lookup → open another tab → repeat.
Canvas lookup fields reduce that loop by putting the context directly where decisions happen.
Real use cases you can implement quickly
Here are examples that map cleanly to how teams actually work:
Deals
On a Deal Canvas detail view, show Account fields like:
- Industry
- Annual revenue
- Employee size
This gives sales reps immediate context while they are working pipeline, without clicking away.
Cases or Tickets
On a Case Canvas, show Contact or Account fields like:
- Customer tier
- Owner
- Key identifiers that affect routing and SLA
List views for fast triage
Canvas list view pages can also show lookup fields so users can scan and compare key account details across multiple records without opening each one.
This is a big deal for reps who live in list views.
How it works in Canvas Builder
Inside Canvas Builder, you can pull these lookup fields from the Data section and drop them into your Canvas layout like any other field.
Think of it as a “record snapshot” embedded in your Canvas: you decide which lookup fields are most useful, place them where the user’s eyes go first, and keep the page focused.
Limits and gotchas to know
Zoho documents a few practical constraints:
- Not available on mobile Canvas detail view pages
- You can add fields from up to five lookup modules on a Canvas detail view page
- You can add fields from up to three lookup modules on a Canvas list view page
This is plenty for most real layouts, but it reinforces the need to keep the design intentional.
Pro tip: pick only decision fields
o not overload the Canvas.
Pick the 5 to 8 fields your team always clicks for because they change what someone does next, like:
- Last activity
- Account status
- Tier
- Payment or billing status
- Renewal date
- Owner
Canvas should reduce clicks, not create a new wall of data.
